GAST – The Italian concept of an “albergo diffuso” (“scattered hotel”) allows entire communities to contribute to a comprehensive range of tourist services, featuring accommodation spread across a number of properties.
This project in Sutrio (near Udine) was developed to showcase all of the wonders of the local area, focusing in particular on the environment, food, wine and events, as well as the views inside and outside the accommodation units that make up the albergo diffuso.
The aim was to portray the blend of traditions and the modern world, bearing witness to a past with distinctive features that still lives on but is also capable of taking fresh, revitalized forms. This is a contemporary setting where tradition continues to have a part to play.
The “GAST Interreg IV Italy-Austria 2007-2013” project was jointly won with the Stradivarie architecture firm of Trieste.
